PowerTrunk is supplying additional TETRA site base stations and TETRA radio units for the TTC network expansion to provide fill-in coverage for Finch West LRT.

This is the latest addition in a series of recent expansions and updates by PowerTrunk for the TTC TETRA network covering the greater Toronto metropolitan area for bus, subway, and rapid transit operations. With the Finch West LRT expansion, the TTC TETRA network comprises 34 TETRA site base stations, several thousand TETRA subscriber units, and dispatch consoles, including onboard radios providing voice communication and secondary data services to TTC’s CAD/AVL system for CleverVISION-equipped buses.

Back in 2021, TTC completed the conversion of its radio communications system to digital TETRA technology.  This accomplishment means that all TTC subway, bus, and rapid transit lines have been operating with TETRA ever since. This extensive network provides TETRA coverage to support the operation of approximately 2,000 buses, 600 street cars, and 377 subway / rapid transit vehicles, making it one of the largest TETRA networks for public transit in the world.

TTC’s TETRA network has proven resilient against cyberattacks as it continued providing voice and data services at all times since it was commissioned and further expanded. Mission-critical capabilities are intrinsic to PowerTrunk’s TETRA technology.

“We are proud of our longstanding relationship with TTC and will continue expanding and supporting its TETRA network upon future requirements and needs. TETRA’s unique ability to provide high-quality voice and data services in the same network makes it the preferred option for transit agencies around the world”, said Jose Martin, PowerTrunk CEO.
