Vulnerability findings concerning the Virve network's Tetra technology do not threaten the confidentiality of official communications in Finland. Three of the five vulnerabilities previously highlighted by the research group concern the Virve network, and remedial actions have been taken for them. According to the information of the isolated networks, the vulnerabilities have not been exploited.

Erillisverkot has informed its customers about the vulnerabilities and given instructions on how the vulnerabilities can be fixed. Key user organizations have also been presented with information on additional measures that can be used to strengthen network encryption if necessary. The researchers' most important discovery related to the algorithm does not apply to the Virve network, which uses the TEA2 algorithm.

The broadband technology of Erillisverkkök's Virve 2 official communication service, which is in the testing and deployment phase, does not contain the vulnerabilities found now.

The Virve authority network is a situation management tool that helps authorities and other security actors to communicate effectively and safely. The current nationwide network of Virve was completed in 2002. The radio network covers the entire territorial waters of Finland and the sea area of the Gulf of Finland. Virve was the world's first nationwide Tetra network built for the use of authorities and other security operators.

The Dutch Midnight Blue research group (NL Foundation) has presented its vulnerability findings of the global Tetra technology at the Black Hat conference on August 9. Stateside.
