Druid Software, the global leader in private cellular network solutions, are proud to announce our collaboration with Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT) in deploying the first private 5G network in the Baltic region. This landmark implementation at the Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) within the Freeport of Riga marks a significant advancement in industrial connectivity and operational efficiency.

“Our previous experience with Wi-Fi in larger outdoor and indoor areas at the terminal was not perfect. Weak coverage, data loss, and limited speed hindered our operations. The new private 5G network implemented by LMT has not only solved these existing issues delivering stable connection and data speeds exceeding our requirements, but has also enabled future implementation of automated mobile robots and other new automation technologies” BCT Chief Operating Officer, Dmitry Kiselyev.

The newly established private 5G network leverages Druid Software’s industrial grade Raemis™ core platform, renowned for its reliability and scalability in mission-critical environments. This deployment provides BCT with a secure, high-performance connectivity solution tailored to meet the demanding requirements of port operations. Key benefits include enhanced data transmission capacity, stable mobile connectivity, and heightened data security, all crucial for the complex logistics and real-time coordination inherent in container terminal operations.

“LMT’s private 5G network solution for BCT demonstrates the power of 5G technology to overcome complex challenges in demanding environments as a container terminal. We are proud to have delivered a future-proof network together with Druid Software that provides excellent coverage, high-speed data transmission, and significant connectivity improvements for BCT.” Kārlis Vilciņš, Head of LMT Systems integration business.

The implementation of this private 5G network addresses several operational challenges faced by BCT. Traditionally, the terminal relied on extensive Wi-Fi infrastructure, requiring numerous access points to cover the 57-hectare area. The new 5G network significantly reduces the infrastructure footprint by utilizing fewer, more powerful connection points. Additionally, it enables seamless communication for mobile operations, allowing for the replacement of outdated analog systems with modern devices capable of transmitting data, images, and video, thereby facilitating advanced applications such as push-to-talk technology.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with LMT on this landmark project,” said Tadej Dragas, Regional Sales Director in Druid Software. “LMT’s vision for leveraging the power of 5G private networks aligns perfectly with Druid’s mission. The deployment of the 5G private network will enable BCT to explore and adopt Industry 4.0 applications, improve operational efficiency, and drive new levels of productivity – powered by our Raemis™ platform.”

This deployment marks a significant step forward in enabling digital transformation across various industries in the Baltics, paving the way for enhanced automation, robotics, and real-time data processing.
