London, June 16 — On the occasion of Critical Communications World (CCW), STREAMWIDE and Etherstack have strengthened their global collaboration to deliver an advanced, fully integrated MCX-LMR interworking capability, based on 3GPP standards. This joint innovation guarantees compatibility between their respective solutions today and in the future, enabling public safety agencies and mission-critical operators to seamlessly interconnect broadband MCX services with existing LMR radio networks.
Building on Etherstack’s LMR InterWorking Function (IWF) and STREAMWIDE’S secure MCX platform, the solution creates a unified communication environment between broadband and legacy radio systems. It allows MCX users to communicate directly with LMR radio users during both routine operations and emergency situations, including inter-agency coordination and mutual aid scenarios.
Designed as an intelligent gateway, the 3GPP compliant IWF ensures protocol translation and alignment of operational behaviors across technologies, enabling a smooth and controlled transition from legacy LMR systems to next-generation broadband communications without disrupting existing workflows.
The joint solution is engineered to support large-scale, nationwide deployments, accommodating extensive user bases across vast territories such as the United States, Australia, and Europe. The fielded solution represents one of the first real-world implementations of large-scale MCX-LMR interworking based on a proven and operational architecture tailored for mission-critical environments.
With built-in geo-redundancy, high availability, and a secure enterprise-grade architecture, the platform ensures continuous operations even in the most demanding situations. Security is reinforced through mutual TLS (mTLS) for strong authentication, along with a 3GPP-compliant Key Management System (KMS) that guarantees end-to-end protection of mission-critical communications.
Beyond technology, the solution significantly enhances inter-agency coordination by enabling police, fire, emergency medical services, utilities, and transportation operators to collaborate in real time. Users benefit from consistent operational behaviors, whether communicating from a broadband MCX terminal or an LMR radio, while dispatchers, control-room operators and administrators benefit from intuitive supervision tools and streamlined configuration workflows.
“Our collaboration with Etherstack is a key enabler for organizations modernizing their communications while preserving existing LMR investments and ensuring operational continuity,” said Pascal Beglin, CEO of STREAMWIDE. “By bridging MCX and LMR environments, we enable seamless, real-time interoperability that accelerates the transition to next-generation mission-critical services while enhancing agility, coordination, and situational awareness in the field.”
“All major LMR standards such as TETRA, APCO P25 and DMR are supported today. STREAMWIDE’s clients can be assured 3GPP compliance at every element in the food chain from their MCX through to their traditional feature rich LMR functionality via the IWF.”, said David Deacon, Etherstack CEO, “Our collective solution leverages Etherstack’s 30 years of LMR protocol expertise combined with both companies’ global foot print to provide the 24x7x365 support experience our customers demand.”
The joint solution will be showcased through live demonstrations at Critical Communications World (CCW), taking place in London from June 16 to 18, where visitors will be able to experience seamless MCX–LMR interoperability through live demonstrations.
