WEMAG Netz GmbH has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art 450 MHz radio network, significantly enhancing the security of energy supply across its service area. Backed by an investment of approximately €20 million, the project involved the construction of 34 radio towers to support highly available and crisis-proof communication.
The 450 MHz radio network is specifically designed for operators of critical infrastructure, particularly in the energy sector. Operating on a dedicated frequency, it provides a secure, nationwide LTE network that remains functional even in emergency situations.
Key benefits of the new network include:
Reliable communication during power outages
Remote control of energy systems and smart meters
Enhanced protection of critical infrastructure
Improved digital resilience in the face of natural disasters and crises
“Thanks to the integrated emergency power systems, the network can remain operational for several days without external power,” said Thomas Murche, Chief Technical Officer of WEMAG AG.
The project was successfully realized in cooperation with 450connect, Cteam, and WEMACOM. WEMAG extends its sincere thanks to all partners and team members for their dedication and support.
