ENENSYS Technologies, leading provider of media delivery and critical communications solutions, is pleased to announce that Zebra Technologies has successfully completed the ENENSYS eMBMS Public Safety device certification program for its Zebra FR55 mobile computer for frontline public safety workers.

This certification is based on a long list of tests in a fully 3GPP standard-based environment to verify the good integration of CubeAgent Mobile (ENENSYS’ eMBMS multicast client) is working properly on the end-device and enables Broadcast/Multicast features thanks to ENENSYS’s technology.

The need of eMBMS comes from the current switch from legacy Public Safety networks (such as TETRA) to LTE and 5G networks, adding new features on top of push-to-talk services such as video and data use cases (called “MCVideo” or “MCData” by 3GPP). Using unicast on those networks may lead to congestion and delay in reception which is not acceptable in crisis situations. That’s where the addition of eMBMS (Evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services) can greatly improve the quantity and quality of information to be distributed while ensuring perfect time reception synchronization.
